What does it feel like to be confronted with new pathways in life? For every positive gain that society attributes to the idea of changeself-improvement, progress, hope – there follows the very human instinct to feel quite the opposite: fear, self-doubt, loss. A special themed section in Issue Thirty-Five of Kinfolk explores how to balance and navigate these conflicting forces when faced with the prospect of professional or personal upheaval. Tips, essays and interviews with leading cultural figures examine how life can both slide out of view and be wrangled back into focus. Also in Issue Thirty-Five, we meet rising actress Greta Lee ahead of the launch of her new HBO series KTown, learn how to get dressed with the inimitable Harlem style icon Lana Turner, and interview designers Maryam Nassir Zadeh and Alexandre Mattiusi. New long reads examine the extent to which we can hack our lives, and how we can overcome generational myopia to learn new perspectives. Elsewhere, photographer Romain Laprade travels to the topiary gardens of Chateau de Marqueyssac, and we play dress-up in our first-ever children’s fashion editorial. Plus: In the spirit of change, we’re making some graphic design upgrades in Issue Thirty-Five: The Starters section will receive a light design refresh, and the Directory section finds a home on new paper stock.
